WAIF Magazine Cover Star - All 3 Looks Revisited

WAIF Magazine Cover Star - All 3 Looks Revisited

I mean, what more is there to say? Gunnar’s iconic “queen of the world” photo shoot published in February 2020 before the entire world went down the drain really takes the cake for this then-brooklyn-punk scene darling. Everything before Gunnar’s temporary WAIF cultural victory is but a distant memory to most now! Enjoy the photos!

The magazine editors selected this photo above for the cover which is so obviously iconic. However since Gunnar turned three looks that photo shoot day in New York’s East Village we had better include them all! Below behold honestly maybe one of the most glamorous photos ever taken (Gunnar left New York forever only a month after these were published.) These photos represent a time before videos changed the world and Gunnar was really the peak of fashion at the moment if we’re being honest.

Below, please take in the timeless elegance of that shot. Gunnar’s photo assistant on the shoot Rafaella absolutely nailed the timing. The lighting is created by a specialty strobe lighting diffuser that has it’s own nickname in the photography industry.

My favorite thing about this outfit is that it is actually a two piece. That is authentic ‘70s brocade leisure suit action going with all the synthetics, shoulder padding, and metallic woven designs. The whole thing flows beautifully and is like a dream in Florida winter.

Here below is such a stunning bashful look. Gunnar’s hair and makeup artist Halle really nailed the glossy skin look. Gunnar used to get free samples from the popular ‘no makeup’ store in that era from a girl who turned out to be a famous punk folk lead vocalist, so you bet that highlight was popping!

From the moment Gunnar found those chaps they knew that they would be perfect for this photoshoot. The sawhorse for the pose is just chef’s kiss.
